Sorry to all the gamblers out there who love picking underdogs, but the Western Conference Finals matchup contains no surprises. The Spurs and Thunder have absolutely rolled into this series with 1 loss between them throughout the first two rounds.
After finishing first in the Northwest Division by 9 games, with the 2nd seed in the Western Conference overall, Oklahoma was poised for a title run. In the first round, the Thunder swept the defending NBA champion Dallas Mavericks, four games to none. Then continued on to beat Kobe Bryant and the Lakers, with just one road loss, 4-1. However they were still second best to the Spurs, who also won their division but finished 1st in the Conference overall, with a stellar 50-16 record. Which was a NBA best along with the Chicago Bulls.
Currently Acesportsbook, the Spurs are around a 2-1 favorite for the series. I know a lot of you can just not hold back your excitement that you will be able to bet the Thunder at +170 or more. Slow down guys. The Spurs are on a run that teams only dream about. They have currently won 18 straight, finishing the season 10-0. Their starting lineup is 100 percent healthy and rested, and averaging over 100 points a game.
And for bettors who are thinking of backing the Thunder, it gets even worse. The Spurs are an incredible 22-4-1 against the spread in their last 27 home games, as well as 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 as a favorite of 5.0-10.5. And while the Spurs are 6-0 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record, the Thunder are 0-4 ATS the spread against similar opponents. San Antonio is also 14-6 in their last 20 conference finals games, and the list goes on and on.
The spread for game 1 at Acesportsbook is holding steady at Spurs -5.5, while the total has risen to 204 from its opening 201 number. Needless to say, I am backing the Spurs for this game and series. As for the total, it might have been nice to jump on the over at 201 or so, but with all that sharp money pushing it to 204 it looks like a pass.
